Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel
San Francisco Proper is a wildly colorful feast for the senses. Take the hotel’s Villon restaurant, which is cast in a blue and black motif and accented by wood, stone, metals, and glass at a delicate scale. Blue ribbed wood paneling is fragmented with geometric shards of antique mirror that open-up the room with surprising vistas and reflections.

For all the activity and openings happening in downtown L.A.’s Arts District in the last decade or so, there have been almost no appealing options for places to stay smack dab in the area. There is Soho Warehouse, which opened in 2019 with 48 rooms available, but it’s available only for Soho House members. Now, Kodō Hotel can put guests right in the center of all that the Arts District has to offer, from exploring galleries like Hauser & Wirth to eating at the Arts District’s plethora of restaurants — including one great café that’s right downstairs. Having maximized every corner of the entire building, it’s not a surprise that MUMEDI also uses its facility as a vibrant event space. The multi-functional hotel, restaurant, art gallery and shop has turned out to be an impeccable venue for cocktail hours, corporate meetings, press conferences…etc.

They were the main reason why it was an excellent stay. Bar tenders on the roof top made excellent drinks. The room was comfortable, fully appointed, stylish, and quiet. The hotel location is ideal for a quick visit to the center of the city. Manny and the staff are incredibly helpful and nice. We had an interior room, which was quiet, spacious, and well thought-out with storage and outlets where you need them. Good breakfast - had a choice of Mexican (eggs or chicken enchiladas with green or red sauce), continental (bread instead of eggs), or just Eggs; + Fruit, coffee, fresh squeezed Juice). We had an upstairs room (no elevator) staff brought our bags up and down.
